The American Board of Medical Hypnosis
The American Board of Medical Hypnosis (ABMH) provides certification of competence
in clinical hypnosis to physicians. It is the approved accrediting body sanctioned
by the two major scientific hypnosis societies, the American Society of Clinical
Hypnosis (ASCH) and The Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis (SCEH).
Its board certification provides the diplomate with the highest level of credentialing
in medical hypnosis.
The purpose of the ABMH is to encourage the study, application, and teaching
of clinical hypnosis and the application of hypnotic technique in all disciplines
of medicine. The Board has established standards of competence for physicians
who voluntarily seek recognition for their abilities and clinical interests
in the application of hypnosis to their specialty area of medicine. The ABMH
encourages and supports research and education in medical hypnosis, and many
members are active in teaching, mentorship, and leadership positions in ASCH
and SCEH, as well as in their own medical specialties.
